Rotorua Activities for Families

During school holidays and weekends, we know how hard it can be to keep the kids both happy and entertained. I’ve put together some of my top ideas for Rotorua activities that will keep the whole family entertained for hours or even days!

There is so much to do when you visit Rotorua with the family, over 400 different Rotorua activities to be precise! Above are simply some of my favorites, I’ve done all of them with my family and everyone has had a great time so hopefully you do as well!

Head to www.rotoruanz.co.nz for more information about these and other Rotorua activities

Motion Entertainment

Rotorua’s newest entertainment mall. It’s a whole mall sized building dedicated to entertainment! Lumberjacks mini golf, Escape Masters Escape Rooms, Strikezone, Timezone, Trampoline Park, 3D Dark Ride, Chipmunks and more all under one roof!! Parents can relax in the café or get involved and relive their youth while the kids enjoy some of the best Rotorua activities in town.

How to get there: Follow signs to go to Rotorua Airport and you will see Motion on the left-hand side on the way out of town. Behind the BP petrol station.

3D Trick Art Gallery

One of the newer Rotorua activities, this place is awesome!! See mind-bending artwork that looks so real you can become part of it! Take creative photos with the family, ride a dolphin, pat a giraffe, run away from giant birds and so much more. You must see this place to believe it for yourself!

How to get there: Follow signs to Hamilton until you pass the Skyline gondola and you will see the trick art gallery on the right-hand side.

Rotorua Duck Tour

Occasionally I do get a bit sick of talking about myself…. But we are talking about fun Rotorua activities for the whole family, so it would be silly not to include the Duck.

There is something for everyone on the Duck Tour. The kids love the thrill of driving New Zealand’s ONLY genuine WW2 landing crafts into our beautiful lakes while the parents and adults can sit back, enjoy the sights and hear the amazing stories that shaped our land and culture into what it is today.

How to get there: You can find the Rotorua Duck office at 1241 Fenton Street, opposite Amazing Thai restaurant. Alternatively you can book the tour at the Rotorua I-site or by calling 07 345 6522.

Skyline

Not only is Skyline a world recognised brand but it also offers one of the best 360 degree views of Rotorua!

Head up the gondola and find something for everyone. The luge will keep the kids happy as they fly down the hill racing for the bragging rights with their siblings, friends and parents. There is also restaurants, cafes, the Jelly Belly store and so much more. It’s one of those things people come to when the visit Rotorua because of how well known it is around the world. Check it out for yourselves!

How to get there: Follow the signs out of town to go to Hamilton and you will see the gondolas going up and down the mountain on the left-hand side, enter the carpark at the traffic lights.

  • “Highly recommend this tour for families, Shaun was our guide, had so much fun, laughter music and learnt alot about Rotorua Lake District. If you are thinking of doing it - do it you will not regret it.”

    A quacking great tour!

  • “The entire experience of booking on iSite, boarding the tour, very friendly and child attentive tour operator Sean, my children ages 12 & 9 loved the entire 2 hours and so did my wife and me. Even the safety drill was conducted so well, the children and adults had a short stint at the wheel in the lakes, made them feel really special. The tour operators choice of music was excellent too. Not a moment was wasted on this lovely journey!”
