The Ultimate Family Day Trip to Rotorua

With a seemingly endless supply of entertainment for the whole family in Rotorua, you could easily spend days navigating your way through the city, soaking in the sights and sounds. However, if you only have one day up your sleeve to enjoy as much as possible, then you might need to condense the options a little. Here a few of our absolute favourite activities, perfect for the young, and slightly less young members of your family!

Big Breakfast Scope Cafe
Start your day off right with a big breakfast or delicious waffles at the amazing Scope Café. This little gem found on Tutanekai Street in central Rotorua has a menu that covers hot cooked meals and a cabinet full of mouth-watering slices. You will have all the energy you need to take on the day!

Rotorua Duck Tours

If you’re looking for a relaxing time while someone else entertains your children, then you will want to head out on a trip with Rotorua Duck Tours. Perfect for all ages, from toddlers to grandparents, and sure to put a smile on everyone’s face! With an entertaining guide full of dad jokes, this is a truly unique way to see Rotorua. To make it even more exciting, the Ducks are amphibious trucks that will drive you straight from the road into some of the most beautiful lakes of the district!

3D Art Trick Gallery

3D Trick Art Gallery, these cleaver paintings will have your family guessing as to whether you really are standing on the edge of a cliff or sitting in a giant bird’s nest! Although it’s easy to get caught up in taking fun photos (you will have Instagram content for weeks) the gallery can be completed in around 1-1.5hours, perfect for a fun and quick adventure.

Skyline -Luge

Go on a luge at Skyline Rotorua! The luge is a weird name for a weird sport, but it is a lot of fun for the whole family. Choose the scenic route for some leisurely riding down the hill, or if you’re a bit of a speed freak, you can take the intermediate or advanced tracks (not for the faint of heart!), or the gondola ride up and back down the hill. Ooh, and don’t forget to grab some Jellybeans while you’re up there to make the experience even sweeter.

Redwoods Treewalk Day & Night

Redwoods Treewalk is a perfect way to cap off the day. At night the Treewalk is lit up with beautiful lanterns, and galaxy lights touch every part of the forest through the darkness. Discover the spectacle all while being high up in the stunning redwoods. Definitely a unique experience. And don’t forget to stop off for a meal at one of our favourite eateries The Good Eastern Taphouse!

    A quacking great tour!

  • “The entire experience of booking on iSite, boarding the tour, very friendly and child attentive tour operator Sean, my children ages 12 & 9 loved the entire 2 hours and so did my wife and me. Even the safety drill was conducted so well, the children and adults had a short stint at the wheel in the lakes, made them feel really special. The tour operators choice of music was excellent too. Not a moment was wasted on this lovely journey!”
